Indra Jau (Holarrhena antidysenterica), also known as Indrayav in Sanskrit and Kutaj Beej in Hindi, is a significant ayurvedic seed used in various religious rituals and pujas. It is believed to have purifying properties and is often used to sanctify homes and puja spaces by adding it to water and sprinkling it around. When burned in a havan (sacrificial fire), it helps remove negative energy and create a positive atmosphere. It is commonly used in Grah Shanti Puja to pacify planetary afflictions and attract divine blessings. Indra Jau can be used by mixing it with havan samagri, adding it to holy water for sprinkling, or burning it in a ghee lamp or incense for purification.
